Fabrication of a Patient-Specific Femur Model

Utilized released patient CT images to extract femur geometries and fabricate a scaled model for a fabrication and design course.

Project responsibilities included:

  • Utilizing ITK-SNAP to selectively extract the femur through contrast adjustment and image thresholding

  • Processing extracted geometries in Autodesk Meshmixer to reduce file size and smooth profiles

  • Scaling 3D geometry in UltiMaker Cura to fit the print bed and 3D printing with an FDM printer

  • Writing final report document processes and project outcomes

Skills Utilized: Image Segmentation, 3D Printing, Technical Writing

Project Outcomes: Submitted final report to course instructor and received full marks.
